March, 2012
Dear supporters of Montreal Loves You Japan
This Sunday, March 11, 2012 marks one year from the Great East Japan Earthquake. Shinobu Akimoto, Matt Evans, and Cheryl Sim would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your generous and compassionate participation in and contribution to our charity event, Montreal Loves You Japan, which took place on April 20, 2011. We truly hope that the funds we raised and sent to the Japanese Red Cross have reached the people who needed it most.
As many of you may be aware, the situation with the nuclear plants in Fukushima has hardly been resolved and remains a serious concern to all of us in the world. People from the tsunami stricken areas and those who have evacuated their homes due to the radiation continue to reside in temporary shelters in which conditions are far from ideal. With the ongoing threat of predicted aftershocks throughout the country, people still suffer tremendous anxiety on a daily basis. Shinobu closely follows the independent media and information coming out of Japan and tries to post anything translated into English on line for all who are interested in the current situation. Residing in Canada, however, we notice that the news of these concerns and challenges has all but disappeared from the media. We wish that this short letter of appreciation may bring you a moment to remember this ongoing tragedy, and that your thoughts, even from far away, encourage them through their hardship.
Thank you very much and we hope to keep in touch.
Shinobu, Matt, Cheryl

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011 5pm ~ (Raffle @ 8 pm)
@ Ctrllab -- 3634 St. Laurent Blvd (@ Prince Arthur)
Initiated by members of Montreal's art community, Montréal loves you Japan is a one-night fundraising event taking place at the city's imminent art space Ctrllab Montreal art house
As artists and art lovers, we have all been inspired by what Japan has offered -- stunning art
and design, the world of Anime and Manga, media technologies, as well as its way of life,
culture and nature. It truly breaks our heart to see this beautiful country and its people going
through such a devastating disaster, and we want to help in the way we know best.
The main attraction of the night will be the exhibition and raffle of 30 original artworks generously donated by prominent contemporary artists. A $100 ticket will guarantee you one of these artworks to take home! Non-raffle ticket holders can contribute by purchasing one of the many cool, affordable artworks and multiples not included in the draw, or by simply
offering a pay-what-you-can donation at the door. Our favourite DJs,
Marcelo Sanchez (Laika) and Keisuke Yoshino will provide the music as we come together in
support of those affected by the disaster.
By purchasing a ticket or attending this event, you contribute to the relief effort for the victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami in eastern Japan. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross through the Japanese Consulate in Montreal.
